Workers’ Rights

Centro Legal’s workers’ rights practice advances the rights of low-wage and immigrant workers through direct legal services, community education, and policy initiatives. The workers’ rights practice represents and assists workers in low-wage industries where wage theft, discrimination, retaliation, and other violations are widespread. Centro Legal also works closely with low-wage worker organizers and worker centers to offer legal services and legal rights education in support of collective efforts to improve working conditions.

Tenants’ Rights

Centro Legal’s tenants’ rights practice is leading the fight to stop the displacement of low-income tenants across Alameda County. Working in coalition with partner agencies advocating for racial equity and housing security, Centro has been awarded several grants that allow for a significant expansion in our legal representation of low-income tenants across Alameda County. We provide three weekly walk-in clinics where tenants are provided advice, counsel, and referral to follow-up appointments, with the goal of preventing evictions. We also provide full-scope representation in rent board administrative hearings and unlawful detainers.

Youth Law Academy

Centro Legal’s Youth Law Academy provides guidance and mentorship to the next generation of attorneys and judges of color. Is a three-year program for Oakland high school students designed to building confidence and understanding of the path to college. Recognizing the need for more diversity in the legal profession we ultimately hope to inspire our students to seek a career in law for the betterment of our community.
